Summer Shootout

OFFICIAL RULES


1.  The entries will be accepted from July 1, 2011 through September 30, 2011. All entries must be completed via the PPA website located at www.ppa.com and submitted by 11:59 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, on September 30, 2011.

2.  Only non-merited images are eligible. A non-merited image is any image that has not been previously accepted for an exhibition merit from PPA's International Photographic Competition or bearing “a PPA Seal of Approval” from any one of its affiliated or District competitions at the time of submission.

3.  Costs:  Each entrant will pay a one-time entry fee of $5, plus $5 per photo entered. Therefore, the cost for entering a single photo will be $10, the cost for two photos will be $15, the cost for three photos would be $20, etc.

4.  Maximum number of photos:  The maximum number of photos that can be entered by a single entrant shall be 20.

5.  Categories:  Photos may be entered in any of four categories including:

  • Portrait
  • Weddings and Events
  • Commercial / Advertising
  • Open

6.  Eligibility:  Any current member of Professional Photographers of America may enter.

7.  Selection of winners.  Images will be judged on technical and artistic merit by Master Photographers. At no time shall judges know the identity of the creator. Entrants agree that the decisions of the contest judges are final and non-contestable.

8. Submissions and image files:  Only digital files submitted through the contest website will be accepted. No print and/or e-mailed images will be permitted. The longest side of any submission must not exceed 850 pixels in size. All files must be saved in RGB mode with a sRGB embedded color profile. Images must be JPEG/jpg format and must not exceed 1 MB. Full resolution or original camera files will be requested from winning entrants.

PLEASE NOTE: Entries not complying with the contest format and entry requirements will be disqualified.

9.  Winners and Prizes.  Winners will be announced on November 12, 2010.
First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded in each of the four categories. An additional grand prize will be awarded for the photo judged to be the most outstanding from the four first-place winners. The prize levels are as follows:

  • 3rd Place:  $250
  • 2nd Place: $500
  • 1st Place:  $750
  • Grand Prize:  $1000


10. Ownership.  All work submitted must be original creations of the entrant. Entrant must have written releases on file from any subjects pictured in the image. Entrant must have captured and created the original exposure. All digital manipulation must have been performed by the entrant. Failure to comply with these rules may result in disqualification of entry. The decision of the Contest judges is final.

11.  Permissions and releases.  By entering you certify that you have obtained all necessary releases and you agree to defend and indemnify Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographer magazine and PPA allied associations against any and all claims or liabilities arising out of or relating to its consideration, display, publication and promotion or other use of each photograph or other material submitted. PPA reserves the right to require additional releases before publication.

12.  License to PPA. As a condition of entry you license the image entered to Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographer magazine, and PPA allied associations for advertising, display promotion, publication and publicity of this and future digital contests. A photo credit shall be granted for any such use. As a condition of entry you license the image entered to Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographer magazine, and PPA allied associations for display promotion on www.ppa.com and www.ppmag.com websites for advertising, display promotion, publication and publicity of this and future digital contests.

13.  Critiques.  Critiques are available on a first come, first served basis for the first 1,000 entries with a paid critique request. After the first 1,000 critiques are requested, that option may no longer be available to additional entrants. Each image critique is $10. Critiques will be written and sent to the participant via e-mail.

14. General.  This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws. By participating, entrants and their participating entities agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and waive any right to challenge the decision of the Sponsor regarding any claim of ambiguity in the Contest or these Official Rules, whose decision shall be binding. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, undeliverable or incomplete entries, whether due to system errors or failures, faulty transmissions or other telecommunications malfunctions, typographical, or otherwise. Sponsor may prohibit an entrant from participating in the Promotion or winning a prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines that said entrant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, hacking, deception, or other unfair playing practices or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or Sponsor. If for any reason this Contest is not able to be conducted as planned, including, but not limited to, by reason of tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, then Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest.  PPA assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. PPA is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by PPA on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Contest.

Be advised that the images entered in this Contest will be viewable on a public website. PPA reserves the right to remove any image from the Contest’s display of entries on the website if it deems the image to have inappropriate public content.

CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY’S FEES) FROM ANY SUCH ENTRANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.

Non compliance within these time periods may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. By entering in the Contest, participants release and hold harmless PPA, their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this contest or any prize won.
